Brasserie Alken-Maes Waarloos | |||
![]() | The Alken-Maes brewery was created in 1988 from the merger of the 3rd Belgian brewery Maes in Waarloos and the 4th Alken (in Alken). In 2000, Alken-Maes was sold, along with Brasseries Kronenbourg, by the Danone group to the English group Scottish & Newcastle. In 2002 the Louwaege brewery was bought and the site was closed in 2003, the production of Hapkin beer moved to the brewery of the Union . In 2003 The historic site of Waarloos is closed and the production (Maes pils) passes to the Brewery of Alken . In 2008, Scottish & Newcastle, was bought by the Danish Carlsberg and the Dutch Heineken who share its companies, the Belgian companies passing into the fold of Heineken. In 2021, Alken-Maes has three sites of production in Belgium, Brewery Cristal in Alken, Brewery Affligem in Affligem and the Brewery Mort Subite in Kobbegem.
