 | Arthur Götze, born around 1865 in Germany to a veterinarian father, settled in Belgium around 1890 after completing his engineering training; he acquired a stake in a brewery in Nivelles that would later become the Brasserie Goetze-Wouters. Around 1910, Arthur had a new brewery built in Lier, at the Nazareth site. Like many breweries in Lier, this facility produced only Pilsner beer. His son George Götze (born in 1893) joined the business, but during the 1914–1918 war, the Germans requisitioned all the copper vats from the brewhouse, forcing the company to pivot to bottling water under the Mono brand. In late 1918, Victory lemonade, which would go on to achieve immense success, was launched; it remained in production until the Second World War. In addition to Victory lemonade, experiments were conducted with pineapple juice, a product that captured the entire Belgian market between 1925 and 1945. Thanks to close ties with the Bass brewery, a bottling line was installed around 1940 to package Bass Pale Ale for the Belgian market. This collaboration ended in the early 1950s. His son Robert was taken to Germany as a prisoner of war at the end of the Second World War. Upon his return, he and his father George took the initiative to produce fruit juices in order to regain a share of the Belgian market. This lemonade was named Capri. In 1955, in addition to distributing its own fruit juices and Bass beer, the company expanded its operations to include the distribution of other products such as Chaudfontaine, Spa, Alken, Chevalier Marin, Supra, and numerous other beverages. Robert Götze's two sons showed little interest in the art of brewing or beer distribution, so the brewery was converted into a discount beverage outlet to better serve local private customers.
