The Moortgat brewery was founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat. In 1923, the start of the Victory Ale which will become in the 70s the Duvel. In 1930 launch of the Extra Blond which will become in 1976 the Extra Pilsner and in 1991 the Bel Pils. In 1945 creation of the Premium which will become the Vedett. In 1964, resumes the production of beers from the abbey of Maredsous. In 1989 creation of the Brewery Steendonk, joint venture with the Palm brewery, which will produce the Steendonk. In 1999 becomes Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat. 2006, takes over the Achouffe brewery which keeps its production line. 2009 Takeover of the Liefmans a > which retains its activity. 2010 acquires the De Koninck brewery in Antwerp which continues to produce its own beers.
