In 1931, Léon Stassen created a professional cider house in the heart of the village of Aubel. The company will not cease to prosper, cider being then an alternative to champagne, too expensive and too rare. Stassen is bought in 1992 by the English Bulmers, world leader in the cider market. Fr 1996, a new product is launched on the market, Strongbow, essentially sold in establishments at the pump or in bottles and which is presented as an alternative to beer. In 2003, the saga of covers experienced a new episode with the takeover of HP Bulmers by the S&N group (Scottish & Newcastle), the third largest European brewer then owner of Alken-Maes . In 2008, the Stassen family bought the shares of the company to sell them, in 2014, to the Heineken group, which also owns Alken-Maes. In 2019, Stassen is integrated into the Alken-Maes group.
